Takahashi Setsuro Art Museum of Azumino

Takahashi Setsuro created a unique world of lacquer art that is both modern and artistically rich. Skillfully employing a technique called sokin, where etched grooves are filled with gold leaf or powder, the artist used black and gold as the base color to fantastically depict the scenery of Azumino, his hometown, which he grew familiar with as a boy. Please also visit Setsuro’s birthplace and garden, a nationally registered cultural property built in the middle of the Edo period.
