Princess Kibi's Tomb

This is the tomb of the wife of Lord Nagaya, Minister of the Left, who fell victim to a conspiracy by the Fujiwara clan in the early Nara period.
The tomb is approximately 20 meters in diameter and has a circular shape.
According to records from the Meiji period, it is said that large stones were arranged like a key and haniwa (clay figures) were scattered on the burial mound.

【Princess Kibi】
Princess Kibi was the daughter of Prince Kusakabe and Princess Aben, and the younger sister of Emperor Monmu and Empress Gensho.
She became the wife of Lord Nagaya.
During the incident involving her husband, she committed suicide along with her four sons. She was buried in Nishimoto in the town of Heguri, as was her husband.
