The head shrine of Suwa Shrine and one of the oldest shrines in Japan

Suwa-taisha is the head shrine of all Suwa Shrine shrines in Japan and is considered one of the oldest shrines in Japan. It consists of four shrines: Kamiyashiro Hongu and Kamiyashiro Maegu on the south side of Lake Suwa, and Shimosha Akigu and Shimosha Togu on the north side of Lake Suwa. The shrine is deeply worshipped by many people as a god that protects the source of life.

It is also worshiped as a god of valor, and it is a shrine that has connections with warlords such as Takeda Shingen and Tokugawa Ieyasu.
The main shrine has the largest number of remaining structures among the four shrines, and if you take your time to visit the historic buildings nestled among the greenery, you will be surrounded by a solemn feeling.
Once every seven years, in the year of the Tiger and the Monkey, the famous strange festival "Ohashira Festival" is held.
