Mt. Goyo

Chosen as one of Japan's 300 most famous mountains, Mt. Goyo is the closest mountain to the sea among those in Iwate's Kitakami Mountains.
It stretches across Kamaishi, Ofunato and Sumita.
With an elevation of 1,351m, years upon years of erosion have rendered the terrain of the mountain almost completely flat.
Due its abundance of cypress trees, the mountain was considered to be an extremely valuable asset by the Date domain many, many years ago.
It's current name comes from the image of the mountain's white pine trees ('goyomatsu' in Japanese).
The Sika deer and the Japanese macaque also inhabit the area, marking it as one of Iwate's prefectural natural parks.
The view of the plateaus from the summit is simple sublime.
