Chichibu 34 Kannon Pilgrimage – Temple No.5

The main hall was named Gokado (“Hall of Poetic Conversation”) after its founder, Honma Magohachi, is said to have spent an entire night discussing the art of waka poetry with a traveling monk and finally mastering its deepest secrets.
According to legend, that monk was in fact a manifestation of Kannon, the bodhisattva of compassion.
To the right of the hall stands a koshin-to stone monument—one of the few remaining examples in the Chichibu area.
The temple’s paper-cut-style goshuin (temple stamp) features the purple wisteria that blooms beautifully in the grounds.
