This bridge is called “Goku-bashi”, and people usually cannot walk on the main part of the bridge in front of the Kekkai-mon Gate.
The Goku-bashi Bridge is only used when monks wearing white clothes give offerings to “Doryo-son”.
Usually visitors cross the “Entsu-bashi Bridge”, which was selected as one of the “100 best Kanagawa Bridges”, on both sides.
The inside of Kekkai-mon Gate is considered to be an area for purification, and two “Tengu*”images guard both sides of the gate.
The one that has a long nose on the right side is called “Hanataka Tengu” and the other one that has a beak and is on the left side is called “Karasu Tengu”.

※ Tengu is a type of legendary creature found in Japanese folk religion.
