Sansha Taisai Festival and Floats

Sansha Taisai Festival is the largest festival event in the Hachinohe region with a history of about 300 years.
This festival is an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan and is also registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage as "Yama, Hoko, and Yatai Float Festivals."
At the festival, a procession of mikoshi (portable shrines) from the three shrines of Ogami Shrine, Chojasan Shinra Shrine, and Shinmeigu Shrine, as well as floats based on myths and kabuki plays, parade around the city.
The size of the floats is 10m high and 8m wide, and 27 groups of participating citizens create new floats every year.
The power and splendor of the 27 floats add great excitement to the festival.
The mini floats on display are one-fifth the size of the actual ones.
The creator is Mr. Kazuyoshi Natsuzaka, who has been involved in the production of the floats for the Sansha Taisai Festival for many years.
