Two Enburi Dolls

Enburi is a harvest festival to celebrate the arrival of spring and to pray for a good harvest by dedicating a dance to the god of rice fields.
This festival is a traditional event held in Hachinohe and its surrounding areas and has been designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan.
It is characterized by its unique dance, which involves wearing a gorgeous eboshi hat in the shape of a horse's head and swinging its head widely.
The Enburi doll made by Mr. Masayuki Shimozaki faithfully reproduces the view of Enburi that he actually saw.
On a cold winter morning, members of the Enburi group and the audience watch over the Tayu (dancer) who devotes his dance to the god.
Ms. Hiroko Takahashi's Enburi washi doll expresses the mystique that synchronizes with the prayers offered by the Tayu (dancer) to the god.
