On the right side of the main gate, there is a rectangular square space called “Masugata”.
The “Masugata” is generally a place of preparation for the defense and the attack in the castle in the age of Civil Wars.
In the case of the Egawa House, this square place was used for the servants to line up for the prefectural governor whenever he went out.
It is said that Hidetatsu gathered the local peasants and organized “militia” and trained in this square place, in preparation for invasion from foreign countries.
