Tamaboko Jinja – The Four Great Scholars of Japanese Classical Literature: Hagura Azumamaro, Okabe Mabuchi, Motoori Norinaga, Hirata Atsutane

The shrine was founded in 1876 by Shinto priests with permission of the government. It enshrines the Four Great Scholars of the Edo period (1603-1868).
The current main shrine building was rebuilt in 1976 using materials from the old Ise Shrine building.
The Four Great Scholars are venerated as the deities that help with entrance examinations and scholarships.
