Karako-Kagi Ruins Historical Landmark Park
The Karako-Kaji Ruins, remnants of a large-scale moated settlement site typical of the Yayoi period (c. 300BCE-300CE), was designated a national historical landmark in 1999.
In April 2018, a portion of the ruins was transformed into a historical park with the concept of reproducing the "world" of the Yayoi period, including both the surrounding rural landscape and daily life as it would have been lived within the settlement.
In addition to AR experiences using smartphone apps, events such as crafting magatama (crescent shaped beads) and fire building have also been held.
The first Nara Tawaramoto Yabusame Festival was held in December of 2019 as a revival of yabusame (mounted archery), a tradition that had continued up until the Edo period.
Adjacent to the park is Resty Karako-Kagi, a roadside station with services catering to tourists.
