Birthplace of Kunio Yanagita

This is the birthplace of Kunio Yanagita, the father of Japanese folklore.
In his memoir, “Seventy Years in My Hometown,” he wrote that living in this house, which he himself described as “the smallest house in Japan,” became the source of his folklore research.
Originally facing the Tsujikawa road, it was moved in 1974 (Showa 47) to a new location beside Suzunomori Shrine, a place associated with him.
