Meguro City Office
The Meguro City office site was once an American school, then in 1966 was rebuilt as the Chiyoda Seimei building, designed by one of Japan's most famous architects, Togo Murano.
In 2002, the Meguro ward acquired the building and renovated it as an "open government building", with a refined appearance, respecting cultural values and including greenery, a pond and a much loved plaza.
The entire building is enveloped by a vertical lattice of aluminium, encapsulating balconies, and allowing outside light to penetrate into the interior.
Its numerous features, including aluminium eaves, eight skylights, the white marble floors and walls of the entrance hall, and a beautiful spiral staircase, showcase Murano's attention to detail and pursuit of harmony between building and people.
