Imai-cho

This town was once so prosperous that it was said that 70% of Japan's gold was here.

A religious self-governing city established in the Middle Ages, the Edo period townscape is miraculously preserved in a large area.
The town of Imai-cho, where many old houses still exist, has been selected as an "Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings" as one of the most valuable groups of traditional buildings that form a historical flavor, and its size is the largest in Japan.
