The iconic pyramid-shaped peak of Chichibu

Rising 1,304 meters on the border between Chichibu City and Yokoze Town, Mt. Buko is an isolated peak long loved as a symbol of the Chichibu region.
Its striking profile changes depending on where you stand: from the Chichibu Basin it appears as a beautiful pyramid, while from the Yokoze side you can see its rugged rock face up close.

At the summit stands Mt. Buko Ontake Shrine.
According to legend, it began when the warrior prince Yamato Takeru dedicated his weapons here during his eastern campaign and prayed for the protection of the Kantō region.
Behind the shrine, a viewing platform offers sweeping views over the Chichibu Basin and the mountains of Okuchichibu.

The approach from Yokoze follows the town’s historic main pilgrimage trail, now maintained as a hiking route.
It is a relatively accessible yet rewarding climb, letting you enjoy both the area’s history and its impressive mountain scenery.
