2026 KURIHAMA Perry Festival on July 11: Fireworks, Ceremony, and Bazaar in Kurihama

The 2026 KURIHAMA Perry Festival will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, in the Kurihama area of Yokosuka City.

The Kurihama Perry Festival is a summer event held in an area closely connected with Commodore Perry’s landing in Kurihama. In 2026, the festival marks 173 years since Commodore Perry’s landing in Kurihama.

On the day of the festival, visitors can enjoy the Landing of Commodore Perry Memorial Ceremony at Perry Park, the Yokosuka Kaikoku Bazaar in the “Halload Street” area, the shopping street near Keikyu Kurihama Station, the KURIHAMA Parade, bon odori, and the Kurihama Perry Festival Fireworks, with around 7,000 fireworks scheduled for the evening display.

Visitors can spend the afternoon around Perry Park and the shopping street, then move toward the parade, bon odori, and waterfront fireworks as the day turns into evening.

Event times and details may change. For the latest information on event status, traffic restrictions, sponsor seating, and inquiries, please check the official announcements or contact the designated inquiry desk.

What Is the 2026 KURIHAMA Perry Festival?

The festival is rooted in the history of Commodore Perry’s arrival in 1853 and his landing in Kurihama.

In 1853, Commodore Perry arrived off Uraga and landed in Kurihama. Yokosuka City holds the Landing of Commodore Perry Memorial Ceremony at Perry Park to commemorate this history.

In 2026, the festival brings together the ceremony, a shopping street bazaar, a local parade, festival stalls, bon odori, and a fireworks display on the same day. Visitors can spend the day around Kurihama, then head toward the coast in the evening to watch the fireworks.

Around 7,000 Fireworks at the Kurihama Perry Festival Fireworks

The Kurihama Perry Festival Fireworks will close the day with a fireworks display over the Kurihama waterfront.

The fireworks are scheduled from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with around 7,000 fireworks planned. Free viewing areas include Kurihama Beach and Perry Park. General sponsor seating is located at “Quay behind CAINZ HOME,” formerly the Nichiro wharf area, while corporate and individual sponsor seating is located in the Kurihama Futō wharf area.

With the Kurihama waterfront as the backdrop, the fireworks are one of the festival’s main evening highlights. The fireworks will be held in light rain, and there is no postponement date.

General Sponsor Seating for the Fireworks

Visitors who would like to watch the fireworks from sponsor seating can use the general sponsor seating area.

Around 3,000 general sponsor seats are scheduled to be prepared at “Quay behind CAINZ HOME,” formerly the Nichiro wharf area. TicketPay handles chair seats and pair seats, while Hashimoto Chaho in Kurihama Shopping Street handles chair seats only, limited to 270 tickets.

General sponsor seating sales have started, but the number of seats is limited. Before purchasing, visitors should check seat availability, seat types, entry procedures, and important notes on the “2026 Kurihama Perry Festival Fireworks General Sponsor Seating” page.

A printed paper ticket is required for entry. If the fireworks are canceled, payments for sponsor seating will not be refunded.

Bazaar, Ceremony, Parade, and More During the Day

The 2026 KURIHAMA Perry Festival is not only about the evening fireworks. Several daytime events are scheduled throughout the Kurihama area, making it possible to enjoy the town before the fireworks begin.

Yokosuka Kaikoku Bazaar and Night Bazaar

The Yokosuka Kaikoku Bazaar and Night Bazaar will be held in the “Halload Street” area near Keikyu Kurihama Station.

The Yokosuka Kaikoku Bazaar is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., while the Night Bazaar is scheduled from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Planned attractions include a hero show, festival stalls, and stage performances, giving visitors a place to enjoy the shopping street area before the fireworks.

Landing of Commodore Perry Memorial Ceremony

The Landing of Commodore Perry Memorial Ceremony is scheduled at Perry Park from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The ceremony commemorates the history of Commodore Perry’s arrival in 1853 and his landing in Kurihama. It offers visitors a chance to connect the festival with the historical background of the area.

KURIHAMA Parade

The KURIHAMA Parade is scheduled from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., from the street between Akehama Elementary School and Kurihama Elementary School to Kaigan-dori Street.

The parade is scheduled to include mikoshi portable shrines, festival floats, kiyari, traditional work songs, a marching band from the Yokosuka City Fire Corps, and a bon odori procession by local participants.

Please note that the separate Nichibei Shinzen Perry Parade, a Japan-U.S. friendship parade with a similar name, will not be held in 2026.

Festival Stalls

Festival stalls are also scheduled around Akehama Elementary School and Kurihama Elementary School from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The stall areas are planned along the street between Akehama Elementary School and Kurihama Elementary School, as well as along the street between Yokosuka Sogo High School and the two elementary schools. Visitors can enjoy this area while moving between the parade, bon odori, and the fireworks viewing areas.

Bon Odori

Bon odori, a traditional summer festival dance, is scheduled at Kurihama Elementary School from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The event is organized by Camp Kurihama, JGSDF. It adds a traditional summer festival atmosphere before the fireworks begin.

Use Public Transportation: Traffic Restrictions and Crowds Are Expected

Traffic restrictions will be in place around Kurihama on the day of the festival.

There is no event parking area for general visitors near the venue. Because traffic restrictions and crowds are expected, visitors should plan to use public transportation from Keikyu Kurihama Station or JR Kurihama Station.

The official access information lists approximate travel times to Keikyu Kurihama Station and JR Kurihama Station from major stations. By Keikyu Line, the trip takes about 8 minutes from Yokosuka-chuo Station, about 37 minutes from Yokohama Station, and about 56 minutes from Shinagawa Station. By JR Yokosuka Line, the trip takes about 20 minutes from Zushi Station, about 31 minutes from Kamakura Station, and about 87 minutes from Tokyo Station.

These travel times are model estimates and do not include transfer or waiting times. Because the area is expected to be crowded, visitors should allow extra time when traveling.

The stations may also be crowded after the fireworks. Charging your IC transit card in advance can help make the return trip smoother.
