Senjogahara Plateau

The name of Senjogahara Plateau is said to have come from the legend that this place was the battlefield where the gods of Mount Nantai and Mount Akagi fought over Lake Chuzenji.
It was formerly a lake but has turned into wetlands, and has a large area of 400 hectares.
Paths for natural research encircle the wetlands, and there is also a hiking course that can be completed in two hours.
350 types of plants live here, and the area is also famous for its many types of wild birds.
You can enjoy this place throughout the year, but we especially recommend mid-June to early August when the Spiraea salicifolia and hare's-tail cottongrass are at their best, as well as late September to early October when the autumn grass and leaves are beautiful.
