Tanesashi Coast

Tanesashi Coast is located in Sanriku Fukko National Park and is a scenic spot with spectacular views loved by Hatsusaburo Yoshida, a bird's-eye view painter from the Taisho to Showa periods, Kaii Higashiyama, a leading Japanese painter of the Showa period, and Ryotaro Shiba, a writer.
Sanriku Fukko National Park was established in 2013 to contribute to the recovery of the Sanriku Coast, which was devastated by the the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, and is the only national park in Japan that was created with disaster recovery as one of its objectives.

The Tanesashi Coast natural grassland is an iconic landscape of this coast, where the contrast between the rugged reefs along the coast and the beautiful grass gives the area an exotic atmosphere, reminiscent of the Scottish coast.
The seasonal flowers, such as daylilies and daisies, which add color to the grassland from early summer to autumn, are also an attraction. Over 650 species of plants are said to naturally grow along this long coastline, and they have been protected by the tireless conservation efforts of local people who love the Tanesashi Coast.
