Syunseiji Temple

Entering the temple gate, a three-storied pagoda, a bell tower, and Tama Daibutsu (Great Buddha) catch visitors’ eye. This is Shunseiji Temple, a family temple of the Shibata family which governed a land of Mitaka for about 80 years over three generations.
On the precincts of the temple, there are a stone monument showing the origin of the Shibata family and tombs of the descendants including Katsushige Shibata. His tomb has the form of Hokyointo (three-tiered stupa pagoda) that is allowed to be used only by a person of high status.
