Tagata jinja Shrine

This historic shrine enshrines the deities Mitoshi (the god of bountiful harvests) and Tamahime (the goddess of prosperity and fertility).
At this shrine there is a custom to pray to and make offerings to "the male object".
This custom is based on stories in "Gleanings from Ancient Stories - Article of Toshigami", a piece of classic Japanese literature compiled in 807 A.D., and has gained attention from people all over the world.
The "Harvest Festival" held each year on March 15th brings people from not only all over Japan, but also from all over the world.
The main event is a Shinto ritual in which men of lucky ages carry around a portable shrine called "The Grand Phallus Shaped Object".
This festival celebrates the blessings of a bountiful harvest and all manner of prosperity and fertility.
