Hie Jinja Shrine / Suitengu Shrine

It is said that the Hie jinja shrine was built in 1579 by Nakajima Chikugonokami Nobuhisa, chief of provincial governors in Chikugo.
This shrine has a legend that Yamato Takeru no Mikoto, who was a Japanese legendary prince of the Yamato dynasty and son of the 12th Emperor of Japan Keiko, enjoyed the cool air under the Hiiragi trees in the precincts during an eastern expedition.
It is said that the Suitengu Shrine was dedicated to safe childbirth in the Meiji era (1868-1912).
