Gotoku-ji Temple

Gotoku-ji Temple is famous for its episode from which the "Maneki-Neko (beckoning cat)" originated.
In the Edo period, a feudal lord from the Hikone Domain, Ii Naotaka ran into a sudden downpour and sought shelter from the rain under a large tree.
Just then, a white cat beckoned to Naotaka in front of the gate of the temple in front of him.
When Naotaka walked through the gate in curiosity, the tree was struck by lightning, and not only had he been saved thanks to this cat, but because the chief priest of the temple that he had entered was a virtuous monk, Naotaka liked Gotoku-ji Temple greatly, built a temple, and made it the Ii family temple.
Beside the beckoning cat that enshrines Manegi-Neko, the people whose wishes have been granted offer Manegi-Neko as thanks.
