National designated historic site "Katsuyamadate-ato"

The mountain castle was built 1470 by Takeda Nobuhiro, the founder of the Matsumae domain. It was a center for politics, military affairs, and northern trade center until the end of the 16th century.
The remains of a house were uncovered during an excavation, which unearthed artifacts and Ainu tombs, leading to a theory stating it was a mixed settlement of Japanese and Ainu people.
