Men Stone Monument (Menzuka)

Legend has it that during the Muromachi period, noh masks and green onions fell from the sky upon this place.
Kawanishi Town is the birthplace of the Kanze school of noh plays. It is thought that Kan'ami founded noh plays.
Various theories exist. It is said that Menzuka was the place to bury noh masks that were no longer being used. It can be inferred that it is a place that was held in reverence from long ago.
Green onions were cultivated in the Yamato Plain until the beginning of World War II. They even appear in the literature of the Edo period.
Presently, the green onions are familiar as Yuzaki Nebuka, a local specialty.
