Itabashi Bridge【10 Scenic Spots in Itabashi】

In the Edo period (1603-1868), the Itabashi was a drum-shaped wooden bridge, 16.2 m long and 5.4 m wide.
It was built where the old Nakasendo road crosses the Shakujii River, and reputedly gave its name to Itabashi during the Kamakura period.
It is also to be found in the Tale of the Heike documents (Enkeihon Heike Monogatari).
The present bridge was built in 1972 during renovation of the Shakujii river.
