Tomb of Yaoya Oshichi (Enjyoji Temple)

Enjyoji Temple is a temple of the Tendai sect of Buddhism, and within its grounds can be found the tomb of Oshichi, a woman who appeared in the book "Five Women Who Loved Love" by Ihara Saikaku, a writer of ukiyo-zoshi (a genre of literature from the Edo period).
The story goes that when her house was burned down in a fire in Edo (now Tokyo), she took refuge at Enjyoji Temple.
There, she and a temple page named Saemon fell in love. In the end, she was burned at the stake for for the crime of arson after setting fire to the temple in order to see Saemon again.
