A traditional vine bridge with thrills and spectacular gorge views

Kazurabashi Bridge (IYA VINE BRIDGE) is a traditional suspension bridge made from shirokuchi vines and spanning the gorge in Iyakei Valley.
About 45 meters long, 2 meters wide, and around 14 meters above the river, it offers a thrilling crossing thanks to its wide plank gaps and gentle swaying movement.
It is counted among Japan’s three most unusual historic bridges and is also designated as a National Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property.
This designation is used for places and objects that help preserve traditional ways of life and folk culture in Japan.
The Iya area is also associated with legends of the Heike clan, who are said to have hidden in these mountains after the civil wars of the late 12th century, and the bridge is said to have been built so it could be cut down quickly if enemies approached.
It also served as an important means of transportation for people living in this remote mountain region.
From the bridge, you can look out over the deeply cut V-shaped gorge and the seasonal beauty of the surrounding trees.
