Suyama Sengen-Jinja Shrine

Suyama Sengen-Jinja Shrine is a historical site that composes the World Heritage Site Mount Fuji.
It is the origin of the Suyama Trail ascending Mount Fuji.
According to shrine legend, the shrine was built by a Japanese legendary prince, Yamato Takeru (Prince Brave of Yamato) when he advanced eastward, and it was restored in 522 by Soga no Iname.
The shrine’s pavilions and the trail incurred major damage during the 1707 Hoei eruption, but they were restored in 1823.
Covered with giant Japanese cedars, some of which are the shrine’s sacred trees, the shrine’s precincts are filled with a sacred, solemn atmosphere.
