Old Fukura Lighthouse

Located on top of a steep cliff called Hiyoriyama, this is said to be the oldest wooden lighthouse in Japan.
In 1608, Sukenobu Hino from Fukura made a bonfire here to navigate ships sailing in the dark ocean of the night. That is said to be the beginning of this lighthouse.
The current lighthouse was constructed in 1876, keeping the original shape, and continued operations to navigate ships sailing in the open ocean for 76 years until a new lighthouse was built.
The slope near the lighthouse has stone paving, and you can see traditional fishing port scenery here.
The view of the ocean from the lighthouse is superb.
It was the shooting location for the 2012 film, "Little Maestra."
The lighthouse is illuminated in summer and winter seasons.
