The “Izumi-so hotel” was built in 1907, after the founder of this hotel excavated the hot spring.
Because the founder discovered the hot spring first in this area, he named it “No. 1 hot Spring” and the Izumi-so hotel became the birthplace of the hot Spring in this area.
At the Izumi-so hotel, there are seven hot baths that have different designs; besides the traditional baths, the cypress bath and the rock bath in the outside, you can enjoy renting out the three types of private baths.

Saneatsu Mushanokoji (1885-1976) who was a well-known Japanese novelist and a poet used to stay at this Izumi-so hotel for more than 6 month in every year for over 20 years. He used this hotel as a place for writing activities.
It is said that taking a bath at this hotel cured Saneatsu’s neuralgic pains.
In the site of the hotel, there is also “Mushanokoji Saneatsu Literature Museum” that was built as the commemorated hall for the 30th anniversary of the death of Saneatsu.
A lot of written works by him are displayed.
