Kawahara-dera Temple Site (Gufukuji Temple)

Kawahara-dera Temple, like Asuka-dera Temple, was known as one of Asuka’s Three Great Temples.
Today, all that remains of the temple are its 28 agate (marble) cornerstones.
Only Gufukuji Temple, which was built on the ruins of the Chukon-do Hall, tells us the story of the temple’s former majesty.
The temple’s treasures, the wooden Dhritarashtra and Vaisravana statue (Important Cultural Properties), are housed in the main building of the Kawahara-dera Temple.
