Bike-Sharing Trial Program Launched in Katsuragi City, Nara

HELLO CYCLING bike-sharing station in Katsuragi City, Nara Prefecture

Katsuragi City has launched a bike-sharing trial program to encourage use for tourism and leisure, as well as to improve convenience for residents in their daily lives, including commuting to work or school and shopping.

To introduce the bike-sharing service, Katsuragi City signed a three-party agreement with OpenStreet Co., Ltd., which operates the bike-sharing service “HELLO CYCLING,” and Life 21 Co., Ltd., which is responsible for the management and operation of the project.

What Is Bike-Sharing?

Bike-sharing is a paid bicycle rental service that allows users to rent a bicycle when they need one and return it at a cycle port near their destination.

Bicycles can be rented and returned at multiple cycle ports installed around the city. A cycle port is an unmanned bicycle rental and return point. This service is designed as a convenient means of transportation for short-distance trips and short periods of use.

In addition to supporting local revitalization, tourism promotion, and health improvement, bike-sharing is also expected to complement public transportation such as trains and buses.
