Sakura Festivals and Hanami Events in Yokosuka

Kinugasayama Park is one of Yokosuka’s best-known cherry blossom spots, and the flowers are usually at their best from late March to early April. In spring, Yokosuka offers not only hanami but also local festivals and guided walks with historical highlights.

The 28th Kitakurihama Sakura Festival

A vibrant and bustling scene at the Kitakurihama Cherry Blossom Festival in Yokosuka, Japan, filled with people joyfully celebrating and enjoying the blooming cherry blossoms.

Held at Negishi Park, also known as Traffic Park, this cherry blossom festival features a flea market, food stalls, a bingo event, and a performance by the Kanagawa Prefectural Police Band. It is a longtime spring tradition in the Kitakurihama area, where the park is surrounded by cherry blossoms.

Visitors can enjoy hanami while browsing market stalls and watching stage events at one of the area’s popular cherry blossom viewing spots.

The 64th Funakoshi Nango Park Sakura Festival

This cherry blossom festival takes place at Funakoshi Nango Park. During the festival period, visitors can enjoy the seasonal scenery of the park, and on the main event day, a ceremony, live music, special displays, food stalls, dance performances, and a prize drawing are scheduled.

On March 29, the festival will feature a performance by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Yokosuka Band as well as activities organized by local groups, creating a lively spring atmosphere in the park. Since cherry blossom timing depends on the weather, visitors are encouraged to check bloom conditions before coming.

Chiyogasaki Battery Site Sakura Festival

This special opening gives visitors a chance to enjoy beautiful white Oshima cherry blossoms at a former Meiji-era coastal battery site. The site will be open every day during the event period, and food trucks and craft workshops are also scheduled for March 28 and 29.

The site is usually open mainly on weekends and holidays, but during cherry blossom season it will be open for seven consecutive days. It offers a chance to enjoy both history and spring scenery in one visit.

The 79th Tsukayama Park Sakura Festival

This sakura festival takes place around Tsukayama Park. About 1,000 cherry trees, including Somei Yoshino, Yamazakura, and Oshima cherry trees, come into bloom, and visitors can enjoy them together with views of Yokosuka Port and Sarushima.

One of the highlights is the combination of cherry blossoms and sweeping views over Tokyo Bay. During the festival period, evening illumination for nighttime cherry blossom viewing is also scheduled.

The 74th Kinugasa Sakura Festival

Held at Kinugasayama Park, which is listed among Japan’s 100 best cherry blossom spots, this event offers around 2,000 cherry trees, views from the summit, food trucks, festival stalls, and stage events.

With its large number of cherry trees and illuminated night blossoms, it is one of Yokosuka’s signature hanami destinations. Please note that programs may change depending on blooming conditions.


Kinugasa Cherry Blossom Festival in Yokosuka: Fully bloomed cherry blossom trees are decorated with lanterns and festive ornaments, creating a scene of quiet anticipation. While the excitement of the festival is yet to fully emerge, the decorations hint at the joyful events to come amidst the beautiful blossoms.

Guided Cherry Blossom Walks

Walk Through a Cherry Blossom Water Source Area and the Scenic Hashirimizu Low Battery Ruins

This guided tour starts at Hashirimizu Water Source Park and visits waterworks facilities connected to the Hashirimizu system, the Hasaki Green Space observation deck, and the Hashirimizu Low Battery ruins. Along with cherry blossoms, participants can also experience the civil engineering and military heritage that supported Yokosuka’s modernization.

This spring walking tour combines cherry blossom scenery with local history.

From Springtime Uraga to the Cherry Blossoms at Chiyogasaki Battery Site

This guided walking tour, which requires advance registration, starts from Uraga Station and traces the history of Uraga from the late Edo period into the Meiji era before heading to the cherry blossoms at Chiyogasaki Battery Site.

This tour combines a historical walk through Uraga with cherry blossoms and a visit to the former battery site.

The 13th Kitashitaura Sakura Road Walk

This walking event covers a route of about 7 kilometers from YRP Nobi Station to Keikyu Nagasawa Station, passing rural scenery, waterfront areas, parks, and cherry-lined streets. Highlights along the way include YRP Waterside Park, the cherry-lined street in front of Iwato Junior High School, and other spring scenery in the Kitashitaura area.

Participants who complete the course will receive a commemorative badge. This event is a good option for visitors who want to enjoy cherry blossoms on foot while exploring the spring scenery of the Kitashitaura area.
