Where Art, Architecture, and the Sea Meet
Yokosuka Museum of Art opened in Kannonzaki in 2007, facing Tokyo Bay. Its exhibitions focus mainly on modern and contemporary Japanese art, including works by artists connected to Yokosuka and the Miura Peninsula.
Alongside special and collection exhibitions, the Taniuchi Rokuro Pavilion introduces the work of Rokuro Taniuchi, best known for his cover illustrations for the Japanese weekly magazine Shukan Shincho.
The museum was designed by architect Riken Yamamoto, winner of the Pritzker Architecture Prize. Circular openings throughout the building connect the interior with the landscape outside. From the galleries and passageways, visitors can catch views of the sea, surrounding greenery, and sky.

Closed: First Monday of each month. If the first Monday falls on a national holiday, the museum will open that day and close on another day instead. The museum is also closed from December 29 to January 3. Additional full-museum closure days may occur when both the special exhibition and the Collection Exhibition / Taniuchi Rokuro Pavilion are being changed. Temporary changes to closing hours or additional closures are announced on the museum’s homepage.
Admission — Collection Exhibition and Taniuchi Rokuro Pavilion: ¥450 for adults; ¥350 for high school and university students and visitors aged 65 or older.
Group Admission: ¥360 for adults and ¥280 for high school and university students and visitors aged 65 or older, for groups of 20 or more.
Free Admission: Junior high school students and younger; persons with a disability pass and one accompanying caregiver; and high school students who live or study in Yokosuka City.
Free Admission Days: Admission to the Collection Exhibition and Taniuchi Rokuro Pavilion is free for everyone on Culture Day (November 3) and on the Sunday closest to Yokosuka City Anniversary Day (February 15). Special exhibitions still require a separate admission ticket.

Access: From Maborikaigan Station on the Keikyu Line, take a Keikyu Bus bound for Kannonzaki for about 10 minutes. Get off at the “La Vista Yokosuka Kannonzaki Terrace and Yokosuka Museum of Art” Bus Stop and walk about 2 minutes.

Take a Break by the Sea at ACQUAMARE
Restaurant ACQUAMARE, located beside the museum, serves Italian cuisine featuring local seafood and vegetables. Its glass-walled dining room looks out over Tokyo Bay, with ships passing by throughout the day.
You can stop for a meal before seeing the exhibitions or take your time over lunch afterward. The museum shop is also open to visitors without an admission ticket and follows the museum’s opening days and hours.

Step Outside the Museum and Explore More of Kannonzaki
Yokosuka Museum of Art is located within Kannonzaki Prefectural Park.
A short walk after your museum visit or meal leads to historic battery remains among the trees, while Kannonzaki Lighthouse lies farther along the coast.
You do not need to visit everything. Choose how far to go depending on your time, energy, and interests.

Walk through the Greenery to the Battery Ruins near Sangenya Park
A path climbing behind the museum leads to the battery ruins beside Sangenya Park in about five minutes.
These are among the remains of the gun batteries that once stood around Kannonzaki, where brick structures can still be seen today. After spending time with art and architecture inside the museum, the short walk offers a different glimpse into the history of the area.
Sangenya Park lies next to the battery ruins and offers views toward Yokohama and the Boso Peninsula.
Although the ruins are close to the museum, the route includes an uphill section, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

Continue to Kannonzaki Lighthouse for Views across Tokyo Bay
If you would like a longer walk, continue from the road in front of the museum through the Kannonzaki park and coastal areas to Kannonzaki Lighthouse, about 20 minutes away on foot.
Kannonzaki Lighthouse stands on the site where Japan’s history of Western-style lighthouses began. The present structure is the third lighthouse to stand here.
Visitors can climb the stairs inside the lighthouse. Visiting hours vary by season and day of the week, and the lighthouse closes for a midday break from noon to 1:00 p.m. Final admission is 20 minutes before the end of each visiting period.
The 20-minute walk from the museum is one way, so allow additional time to visit the lighthouse and make your return journey.
