Kurihama Hananokuni Poppy Festival

Not only a carpet of poppies, but also lots of fun events taking place during the festival!

This year, on the 28th (Sat) and 29th (Sun) of May, a free flower picking event will be held.

Anyone with scissors can pick flowers to take home.

Date: Saturday, April 23, 10:00am – 3:00pm
(Cancelled in the event of rain or stormy weather)

Venue: Plaza in front of the Poppy Garden

Organiser: Yokosuka Historic Car Day Executive Committee

The classic cars will show up at the plaza in front of the Poppy Garden!
Come and enjoy the cool cars!


<Making traditional Japanese fabric poppies (“chirimen”)>

Date: Saturday, May 7 – Sunday, May 8,11:00am – 2:00pm

Venue: Herb Garden

Charge: 300 yen per session

Make your own pretty poppy flowers using traditional Japanese fabric (chirimen)


<Swimming in the sky, with carp streamers – “Koinobori”>

Date: Saturday, April 23 – Sunday, May 15

Venue: Poppy Garden

Elegant “Koinobori” carp streamers (carp shaped windsocks) come to the Poppy Garden to celebrate Children’s Day!


<Children’s Fair!>

Date: Saturday, April 16 – Sunday, April 17, 10:30 – 15:30 (last admission at 15:15). (Cancelled in the event of rain)

Venue: Herba (the log house next to ‘Restaurant Los Marines bus stop’)

Admission: 200 yen

Enjoy a fair with shooting games and Omikuji ring toss!


<Giant cardboard maze!>

Date: Friday, April 29 – Thursday, May 5, 10:30am – 3:30pm (last admission at 3:15pm)

Venue: Herba

Admission: 100 yen per visit

Age: From 3 years old to primary school students (pre-school children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian).

A giant cardboard maze for Golden Week!
Answer the quiz inside the maze to escape!


<Children’s Day event>

Date: Wednesday, May 5, 11:00am –

Venue: Plaza in front of the Poppy Garden

Fee: 500 yen per kit (incl. tax)

Handmake a wooden train toy!


<Children’s craft workshop>

Date: Wednesday, May 4, 11:00am – 1:30pm

Venue: Herb Garden Observatory

Admission: free of charge

Age: Suitable for children up to primary school age (pre-school children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian).

Have fun using a woodworking kit to make a small container to celebrate your visit to the park!

<Kurihama Flower Town Fair: Spring>

Date: Sunday, May 15, 10:00am – 3:00pm

Venue: Plaza in front of the Poppy Garden

Organiser: Kurihama Tourist Association

Featuring various performances and sale of local products!


<Complimentary poppy flower picking event>

Date: Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29,2:00pm – 4:00pm (Cancelled in the event of inclement weather)

Venue: Poppy Garden

All start at 2:00pm with a countdown!
The Poppy Festival will end with the annual free flower picking event.
Flower picking sets (scissors, gloves, newspapers, etc.) will be on sale for 300 yen!
You can also bring your own flower-picking tools.
