Taura Plum Blossom Festival 2024: Captivating Beauty Unveiled

Experience the charm of nature at Taura Plum Blossom Festival, Feb 2 – Mar 6, 2024. Celebrate 2,000 blooming plum trees in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa. Explore the rich history, picturesque surroundings, and family-friendly activities of this flourishing haven. A must-visit destination!

Festival Highlights

Embrace the festive spirit with a variety of activities:

Family Kite Day

February 4 (Sunday) from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, bring your own kites. In case of rain, the event will be postponed to February 18 (Sunday). Participation is free and open to all.

Exhibition

February 25 (Sunday) from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Taura Elementary School Gymnasium featuring ikebana, traditional kites, photography, and panel displays.

Stage Performances

February 25 (Sunday) from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Taura Elementary School Gymnasium, including a mini-concert by Jaws Lady’s Quintet, traditional folk dance by the Northern Folk Dance Union, and a hip-hop dance performance by iMUKK.

Culinary Delights

February 25 (Sunday) and March 3 (Sunday) from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, food stalls will be set up at the entrance on the Taura Izumicho side, offering items such as oden, baked sweet potatoes, frankfurters, and beverages. Please note that these sales are subject to cancellation in case of inclement weather.

Additionally, at the Taura District Voluntary Center during the same hours on February 25 (Sunday) and March 3 (Sunday), you can find a rest area where curry rice and pork miso soup will be available for purchase. Again, these sales are contingent upon fair weather conditions.

About Taura Plum Grove (Taura Ume no Sato)

Enchanting Plum Blossom Destination

With over 2,000 plum trees in full bloom, this destination has earned a spot among the “Top 100 Flower Spots in Kanagawa.” Spanning 6,000 square meters, it is the exclusive plum grove on the Miura Peninsula. The annual “Tagura Ume Grove Festival” from early February to March draws a multitude of visitors.

Family-Friendly Activities

The site features an athletic square and a well-utilized lawn area, providing families with a day of enjoyable activities. The panoramic vista from the observation deck is awe-inspiring. From December to March, patrons can appreciate narcissus flowers, while azaleas bloom near the observation deck in May.

Tagura Ume Grove’s History

Established in 1934 to commemorate the birth of the Crown Prince, the association planted 700 plum trees. Covering 6,000 square meters, it is the sole plum grove on the Miura Peninsula. In 1982, the city planted plum trees in Tagura Green Park, now known as Tagura Ume no Sato, making it the foremost plum blossom spot with around 2,000 plum trees.

Spectacular Plum Blossom Season

Late February to mid-March sees the grove filled with beautiful flowers and fragrances, attracting numerous enthusiasts and creating a lively atmosphere throughout the day. Additionally, December to March showcases narcissus flowers, and early May brings the scenic beauty of azaleas near the observation deck.
