Shinkawa Promenade with 1,000 Cherry Trees

The Shinkawa river was once used as a "salt road" to transport salt from Gyotoku (present day Ichikawa City in Chiba Prefecture) throughout Edogawa City.
The river was lined with many shops and restaurants selling miso and soy sauce.
Even now the area retains something of an Edo period waterside atmosphere with 718 cherry blossoms of 20 different species growing along the promenades on both riverbanks, making it a famous spot for viewing the blossoms in spring.
Traditional wooden Japanese boats sail the river during various events so that visitors can get out on the waters of the Shinkawa and enjoy the view.
Located in the center of it all, the Shinkawa Sakura Hall functions as a regional interactive base where visitors can continue to experience the history of the Shinkawa and promotes events using local leisure areas and open spaces.
