At the Urado Castle Battery Site, there was a lighthouse built between 1658 and 1660, which served as a landmark for boats coming and going at night.
In 1638, four guard stations were set up in the Tosa domain (han) to monitor the arrival of foreign ships, and according to a record of 1716, one was set up in Urado.
As foreign ships began to appear in the seas around Japan, in 1808 the clan deployed several large cannons and then in 1863 built a full-scale gun emplacement.
The site was reputedly used to store ammunition.
