BMX Freestyle Disciplines: Park and Flatland Explained

BMX is a cycling sport that is generally considered to have originated on the West Coast of the United States in the early 1970s.

BMX Freestyle has developed into several disciplines, including Street, Park, and Flatland, and is enjoyed around the world. Mynavi JapanCup Yokosuka 2026 will feature BMX Freestyle Park and BMX Freestyle Flatland.

Although both are BMX Freestyle disciplines, the competition areas and key points to watch are very different.

BMX Freestyle Park

BMX Freestyle Park is held in a competition area with multiple ramps. Riders move freely through the course within a set time, combining jumps, rotations, aerial tricks, and linked combinations.

When watching Park, look not only at jump height and trick difficulty, but also at speed, line choice, the way each trick connects to the next, and landing precision.

BMX Freestyle Flatland

BMX Freestyle Flatland is performed on a flat competition area. Riders balance on one wheel, rotate, use footwork, and connect tricks, competing on the flow and originality of their performance.

Unlike Park, which features large jumps, Flatland is shaped by subtle shifts in balance and the ability to link tricks smoothly without breaking the flow. Watch for the delicate control that makes the bicycle and rider appear to move as one.

On-site Events

Visitors can also enjoy on-site events alongside the BMX Freestyle competition.

OFFICIAL BAR

The OFFICIAL BAR will be open at the venue on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7.

Light meals and drinks will be available for purchase. Visitors can also purchase bottled beer featuring a BMX Perry label.

Visitors who complete the event questionnaire will receive a ¥100 discount coupon that can be used at the OFFICIAL BAR. A total of 300 coupons will be available across the two days.
