From April 5 to May 25, 2025, Kurihama Flower Park in Yokosuka welcomes visitors with a stunning display of poppies and nemophila. The annual festival features colorful flower fields, family-friendly games, craft activities, and lively outdoor performances. On May 24 and 25, guests can also enjoy a special treat—free poppy picking. Bring your scissors and take home a bouquet from the field. Each spring, Kurihama Flower Park transforms into a breathtaking tapestry of color. The park’s vast flower beds bloom with thousands of vibrant poppies and sky-blue nemophila, blanketing the gentle hillsides. Visitors can stroll along scenic trails surrounded by floral beauty, with views that shift subtly in the breeze. The combination of warm-toned poppies and cool-toned nemophila creates a vivid contrast that perfectly captures the spirit of the season. Free Poppy Picking Days

May 24 (Saturday) and May 25 (Sunday)

One of the festival’s most beloved traditions is the Free Poppy Picking Days, scheduled for May 24 (Saturday) and May 25 (Sunday). From 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, visitors can cut and take home poppies from a designated flower field. Scissors and gloves can be brought from home or purchased on-site as part of a flower picking set (300 yen). The event is open to all ages and requires no prior registration. On May 24, half the poppy field is open for picking; on May 25, the entire area is accessible.

Note: Flower picking is allowed only in the designated poppy field. Please do not pick flowers in other parts of the park.

Date: May 17 (Sat) (postponed to May 18 in case of rain)

Enjoy live brass band and dance performances, along with stalls selling local food and specialty products. A festive day to celebrate spring in Kurihama.

Dates: April 19 (Sat) & 20 (Sun), May 17 (Sat) & 18 (Sun) (cancelled in case of rain)
Time: 10:30 AM – 3:30 PM (last entry at 3:15 PM)
Venue: Helva (near Restaurant Rosmarinus stop)
Fee: 200 yen per game

Games like ring toss and target shooting. For ages 3 to elementary school. Preschoolers must be accompanied by an adult. Prizes for winners!

Celebrate Children’s Day with koinobori(こいのぼり)—colorful carp-shaped streamers traditionally flown across Japan in honor of children’s health and happiness.

Kurihama Flower Park is a spacious hillside park located in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture. Known for its seasonal flower displays, the park offers a relaxing natural setting with expansive lawns, themed gardens, and scenic walking paths. Throughout the year, it attracts visitors for its poppy fields in spring, cosmos in autumn, and herb garden with hands-on experiences.

Families can also enjoy the Adventure Land area, featuring large playground equipment including the popular Godzilla Slide—a 10-meter-long structure modeled after the iconic movie monster, where children can slide down from its belly to its tail.

From JR Kurihama Station or Keikyu Kurihama Station, it’s about a 15-minute walk to the park entrance. Signs along the way will help guide you through the town toward the park.

Take the Yokohama-Yokosuka Road and exit at Sahara Interchange (IC). The park is about 4 kilometers from the IC. Parking is available on-site (fees may apply).
