Kunimare Sake Brewery

It was founded in 1882, when Taizo Honma, the first generation, submitted an application for a brewing license to the Mashike County Office.
At that time, most sake was imported from Honshu and was not cheap.
However, Taizo, who had knowledge of sake from an acquaintance in Sado, decided to brew his own sake in Mashike town.
For the first 20 years of the company's history, the brewery was located on the premises of the old merchant family, the Maruichi Honma family, but as demand for sake continued to grow due to the herring boom, in 1902, a sake brewery was built on the current site using soft stones from Mashike.
