Because the Egawa family has been making sake brewing since 1250, the water of this well has been used for sake brewing as much as daily use water.
As the sake was very excellent, the name “Egawa sake” was given by an well-known warrior, Souun Hojo.
It was also presented to the general Ieyasu Tokugawa who was the founder and the first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate of Japan as one of the five best local sakes.
