AOKIYA, Jindaiji Soba with a special miso-oden*

You can forget the noise of the city and spend time relaxing at AOKIYA

With a 58-year history, AOKIYA is situated on the side of the approach to Jindaiji Temple.
You can forget the noise of the city and spend time relaxing at a glass-walled restaurant that gives an open feeling in a leafy area.
Inside the restaurant, there are tables with about ten seats and the Japanese style tatami seating.
Outside, there are tables on the terrace, from which you can enjoy the scenery with your pet.
Having adhered to the same ingredients, noodle making method, and serving style since the opening, the restaurant’s soba noodles boast a chewy texture and excellent smoothness to the throat.
Several types of the best side dishes as nibbles for drinks can be served.

*Oden is a very traditional Japanese stew

AOKIYA: Recommended soba menu

The noodle dipping sauce makes broth from dried bonito and dried mackerel, featuring a subtle sweet scent.

○ Tenmori-soba: 1150 yen

The restaurant’s most popular menu is the soba noodles with excellent smoothness to the throat served with shrimp tempura and two kinds of vegetable tempura.
The soba noodles are also recommended to finish off the meal after having nibbles for drinks.

○ Miso-oden: 450 yen

"Miso-oden" is a standard meal that has received a favorable reception from many customers since the opening and goes very well with shochu*.
*Shochu is a Japanese traditional hard liquor, distilled spirits made from grains and vegetables.
The most popular base ingredients are sweet potato, barley, rice, buckwheat and sugar cane.

The secret ingredient is the restaurant owner’s smile: "AOKIYA"

【Postscript of Jindaiji Temple Soba Noodle Tour】

“AOKIYA is lost without Jindaiji Temple and the Botanical Garden. Also, it makes no sense that only our restaurant works hard. Joining hands with restaurants belonging to the soba noodle association, I want to stimulate this area,” said the restaurant owner.

At first, I had an impression that the restaurant owner is shy, but as I spoke to him, he showed a pleasant expression, which made me feel that his warm character might be one of the secret ingredients that are the source of delicious meals served by the restaurant Aokiya.
